
In the 1970s Curtis constructed several 18 plexes and a day care center in Ankeny. Their largest project was a 192 unit complex, complete with garages, tennis courts and a swimming pool. During this time, they also completed a 5000 square foot warehouse in Ankeny. Also, two apartment buildings were constructed in Newton, Iowa. All of the above properties were managed by Curtis for various partnerships entities, which had purchased them.
During the years 1976-1989, the principals of Curtis were also involved in three motel properties. The Best Western Inn in Ankeny, Best Western Bavarian Inn on the north side of Des Moines and an independent motel in Newton, Iowa.

During the 1990s Curtis commenced developing a rural subdivision east of Ankeny. The project included 4 different plats, consisting of home lots one acre to nearly two acres. While most of the lots were sold to individuals and builders, Curtis constructed several speculative and custom homes. Also during the 1990s Curtis completed a 6000 square foot office building at 301 NE Trilein in Ankeny. Curtis Development Co. continues to operate their office in this building. In 1997 through 2001 Curtis developed a 6 acre site to become a 122 unit apartment complex in a very rapidly developing area of Ankeny adjacent to 1st Street and Interstate 35. After the turn of the century, Curtis continued building single family homes and duplexes as well as another small apartment building in Ankeny.
Today Curtis Development looks forward to continued growth in developing residential and light commercial projects in Central Iowa. Property management and property asset management continues to be a major component of what we do.
